Why Write? Why Not?

THIS ENTRY HAS MOVED!

I’m sorry, but "Why Write? Why Not?" has moved here.
I apologize for any inconvenience, irritability, or bodily harm this may have caused.

My new website for The Cat’s Cradle is http://kvclements.com.

Thank you, and happy reading!

  1. I meant what I said in the Facebook comment. I did read this out loud. This is why I write as well... through writing we can be anything we want, *meet* any*one* we want, and we can live vicariously through myriads of avatars... made just for us- and, someday, for other people too.

    1. *hug* Thanks! I love being able to do and be and do things in writing that I never would be able to in real life. It's very liberating.

  2. Isn't it funny how the people close to us can see parts of our future before we do? (One of my aunts predicted that I would be a teacher when I was just a child.)

I like this: "loopy, childishly careful cursive."

I love this: "I wanted to give life to the thoughts and images that swirled in my head, to craft something that, like a child, needed me through its infancy, but eventually would stand on its own without my help." It gets at something that fascinates me about creating stories---something I hope to explore in the denouement of The Shelverman Chronicles, if I ever get around to it.

"Nothing else can drag me into the deepest depths of depression or raise me to the highest pinnacle of euphoria like writing. Nothing else can push me, pull me, drag me, hold me, help me, guide me, inspire me, tease me, taunt me, cure me, or kill me like writing can."
»»This is another one of those times that I feel slightly less like a "real" writer because my feelings about it aren't as strong as yours and Fox's.

I like the conviction and self-determination of your conclusion... but I do think it's a shame that you were matter-of-factly hard on yourself during so much of this (describing your looks as "less than average," and so forth). I hope that these attitudes, perhaps, have shifted since.

    1. Wow. That's...really weird and really cool at the same time.

I used to have such neat handwriting...now it's all messy.

For what it's worth, I generally don't feel very elated WHILE I'm writing. The emotions usually come in hindsight; most of the time I'm really struggling to keep writing, unless it's a scene that has grabbed my attention. Which doesn't happen often. And really, the fact that you are fascinated by giving life to stories definitely means you are a "real" writer.

Thanks, but I do try to be as objective an honest as I can when I write these...so sorry, my attitudes on my looks and abilities really hasn't gotten better. But still, thanks.
